First impressions always count - and for some time now the scuba sign over the Club has failed to make a positive impression on visitors. Now, thanks to the Base authorities, and to the Committee members who took the matter up, we have a bright, shiny new sign that better reflects the nature of our Club.
And it doesn't end there. Our cramped premises now boast an excellent, state-of-the-art compressor that would be worthy of employment in any commercial operation, and we have excellent new wetsuits and other accessories to offer our members.
A note of appreciation is duly recorded here to the Base and to all our Committee members who have made this happen. Running any organization well and with a high degree of success is no accident. It doesn't happen by itself. Well done to all concerned - and sincere thanks.
Our very own Matt was one of several divers to benefit from Nautical Archaeology training in Kingston this last weekend. He's pictured here working on underwater survey techniques. The course covered all manner of topics from basic ship construction (giving a greater understanding of what we see in our wrecks) to the law governing underwater sites. Matt will be very happy to explain his exploits to anyone interested. The event was a great success, despite being blown off the Lake to the quarry for the practical exercises. Responding to an invitation from the Base's Diversity Action Group, the Club provided a presence at an afternoon of talks and discussions on the status of women in the Canadian Forces. Our display highlighted the activities of our female members and Kim and Dianne were on hand to talk to interested individuals. There was a great deal of interest, which included a visit from the Base Commander, himself a diver.
